About BackyardHippo.com
Hippopotamus translates from Greek as Water or River Horse.  Hippos spend most of the day in the water, emerging from the water at dusk to eat.  Their closest living relatives are whales and  dolphins.  For me, the hippo symbolizes being present in the waters of my expanded awareness and then moving insights gained there to the "land" of waking life.

On a lunar eclipse, I dreamt that several animals were passing through the backyard -- a yard that was a combination of my current backyard and the one at my childhood home.  One particular animal caught my attention -- a pre-historic hippo.  Unbeknownst to me, sometime during the night, I got up to go to the bathroom, saying out loud, "There's a pre-historic hippo in the backyard."

Later, when I was looking through my journal for the hippo dream, I found several dreams that I was having about my backyard, particularly at my childhood home.  The backyard can symbolize the unconscious, what lies behind waking reality that shapes our lives.  As I worked with the dreams, I decided it was time for me to stop relegating my psychic ability to the backyard of my life.
